Make sure your veterinarian is currently doing reproductive
work. (If your veterinarian is not comfortable doing breeding
work, please call us for a referral veterinarian in your area.)
5.
Make sure you have an old gelding or a nearby stallion
with which to tease your mare. This is extremely important and
can save you a lot of money in unnecessary veterinary bills.
Teasing only takes five minutes a day.
6.
If your mare is approved, we will send you a Mare
Identification Passport for your veterinarian to complete.
7.
All breeding fees must be paid in full prior to sending the
first shipment of semen.
8.
As the mare owner, you must provide a veterinary
certificate and current uterine culture (taken when the mare
is in heat and submitted to a recognized lab) showing the mare
to be of sound breeding condition and free of infection.
9.
The mare must be examined by
a licensed veterinarian before 55 days after the last day bred
(in a calendar breeding season) to determine pregnancy status.
The pregnancy status must be noted on the Breeding Passport,
signed by your veterinarian, notarized and returned to Hamilton
Farm within 10 days of the the examination. This step is vital
to secure your rebreeding rights for the following breeding
season if your mare did not become pregnant (see contacts
for detailed information).
